Antiques and books make us old and wise; weapons make us strong, violent; a certain décor defines a distinct time and place and even emotion. They mold us and add meanings to us so profoundly. Antiques and books make us old and wise; weapons make us strong, violent; a certain décor defines a distinct time and place and even emotion. They mold us and add meanings to us so profoundly. Power shifts and swaps. The makers are being made.

This is the on-going, epic yet delicate love story between humans and things. What the Prophead series aims to capture is the heart of the story: the tipping moment when we are both lost and found in the things around us.

At each New York City prop shop, I asked a patron to pick and show me his or her favorite item, which was then photographed to replace the human face, mostly without my subject's knowing. All identities surrendered but the ones created by an all-prop world.

In time, all things are props, including ourselves, and this photograph you are looking at.
